Types of Study Away Programs

National Student Exchange (NSE)

National Student Exchange is an outstanding way to enhance your academic options by attending another approved university in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico and earn transfer credit toward your degree at Dakota State University.  Whether you simply want to experience another state and/or environment for a semester, or you want to take advantage of distinctive academic offerings at another university, NSE allows you to transfer to another approved university for one semester.

Faculty-Led Programs

DSU Faculty-Led Programs allow students to participate in a short-term international program accompanied by a DSU faculty member.  These programs are ideal for students who have never traveled internationally before.

  • Art of Rome, Florence, and Paris Faculty-Led Program

  • London/Paris Photography Faculty-Led Program

  • Panama Faculty-Led Program (BADM 492 or SPAN 492)


Study Abroad


A Study Abroad Program enhances a student's academic experience with meaningful cultural and academic experiences in a country outside the USA.  A Study Abroad program is administered by an educational organization and/or host university in another country and offers courses that are eligible for transfer credit toward your degree at Dakota State University.   Study Abroad programs are offered in just about any country in the world.  There are relevant programs for every academic major.  Programs range from 4 to 8 week programs during the Summer, and full semester programs for the Fall and Spring, and some programs require a full academic year commitment.
